The appeal has been directed by representatives of regional, district and town councils of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Transcarpathian, Chernivtsi Regions and local councils – members of  Local Government Authority Association “Euroregion Karpaty – Ukraine”. The corresponding declaration was signed during the round table “Problems and perspectives of development of mountainous regions of Ukraine” in presence of Andriy Parubiy, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ukraine.

The appeal shows that exclusively development and effective implementation of a complex state policy directed at support of Carpathian region development prioritizing at:

-development of road and transport infrastructure (aiming at providing accessibility within Carpathian region);

-support in solving ecological problems;

-tourism development and preservation of historical and cultural heritage

can be an effective measure to provide permanent and balanced development of mountainous territories of Ukrainian Carpathians, to advance its economic competitiveness and raise living standards of local population as well as preservation of the environment, natural resources and rich ethnic and cultural heritage of the region.

Moreover, representatives of local self-government authorities stressed that protection, preservation and development of the Carpathians cannot be achieved with efforts of exclusively one region. System and complex state policy, interregional cooperation is necessary in this respect.

“We support the initiative of mountainous regions concerning their appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as for elaborating and implementation of State program aiming at supporting the development of Ukrainian Carpathians. Furthermore, we appeal to all non-indifferent Parliament representatives, leaders of self-government authorities, non-governmental organizations and scientists to promote this initiative,” mentioned Andriy Parubiy, Speaker of Supreme Council of Ukraine.
